WWE News: Bad news for WWE as Mixed Match Challenge viewership drops

Even Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman, couldn't tip the balance!
Even Bliss and Strowman couldn't tip the balance!

What's the story?

Immediately following SmackDown Live, the WWE Universe enjoyed a very entertaining episode of the Mixed Match Challenge. Despite the presence of four major stars including Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss, the show did not do great numbers.

In fact, the show saw a 32% drop in viewership, despite the stars. We thank Wrestling Inc. for the stats and figures.

In case you didn't know...

Even though Sami Zayn was part of the main event on SmackDown Live, he teamed up with Becky Lynch immediately afterwards for the Mixed Match Challenge. It was a fun match, and the participants seemed to be having a ball in the ring.

The incredibly adorable duo of Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman picked up the win, with Bliss launching herself off Strowman's shoulders for a picture-perfect, beautiful Twisted Bliss. Both would acknowledge each other's 'cuteness' in the interview that followed the match

The heart of the matter

Even though the Philadelphia crowd seemed a tad dead through the course of SmackDown Live this week, they seemed to come alive for the Mixed Match Challenge.

They serenaded Becky Lynch with chants of 'Happy Birthday', and were full of 'oohs' and 'aahs' as Bliss and Strowman's romance began to blossom.

Unfortunately, it did not reflect in the viewership numbers as the show peaked at 62,400 live viewers only.

This was a massive drop as compared to the premiere episode, which had a live viewership of 135,600.

What's next?

Next week, we'll see the real-life husband-wife couple, Jimmy Uso and Naomi, take on the newly formed team of Goldust and Mandy Rose in the Mixed Match Challenge.

Author's take

The number can be attributed to there being just too much wrestling this week. We believe the audience was fatigued after the non-stop barrage.

We fear that the number will only go further down next week, considering next week's card is not interesting.
