WWE News: Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn added to WWE Backlash card
What’s the story?
On the latest episode of SmackDown Live, Sami Zayn was interviewed backstage and announced that the authority figures agreed to give him a match against Baron Corbin. This brings the total number of matches scheduled for Backlash to seven, including the kickoff match between Tye Dillinger and Aiden English.
In case you didn’t know...
The feud between Corbin and Zayn began back on April 11 when AJ Styles defeated both men to become the number one contender for the United States Championship. Several weeks later, Corbin and Kevin Owens attacked Styles after a match, which led to Zayn taking out Corbin. Corbin would respond by attacking Zayn on Talking Smack.
Corbin was suspended for one week, but that was done to give him time off so he could get married. After Zayn’s announcement, Corbin would attack him again and issue him a warning.
The heart of the matter
The following is the official list of matches occurring on the main card of Backlash this Sunday:
Randy Orton (c) vs. Jinder Mahal – WWE Championship
Kevin Owens (c) vs. AJ Styles – United States Championship
The Usos (c) vs. Breezango – SmackDown Tag Team Championships
Naomi, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch vs. The Welcoming Committee
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Dolph Ziggler
Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn
Tye Dillinger vs. Aiden English
Considering some of the matches listed, Corbin and Zayn could be the match that kicks off Backlash.
What’s next?
Backlash will hail from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois this Sunday. The Backlash kickoff will take place one hour early and will feature The Perfect 10 taking on the former Vaudevillian.
Author’s take
Backlash has a few good matches on the overall card, but nothing that looks like it will stand out. However, there’s always the chance that some of the wrestlers could surprise us and churn out some memorable encounters for this pay-per-view.
