WWE News: Batista confirms talks with Vince McMahon over possible WWE return
What’s the story?
In a recent appearance on the Ross Report, Batista touched upon the prospect of a return to WWE, revealing he had indeed been in touch with Vince McMahon to discuss the possibility.
The former six-time world champion also spoke about how he’d want a return to be a full-time one, while he’s also got a very specific program in mind should the comeback become a reality.
In case you didn’t know…
Batista hasn’t been seen in WWE since literally waving goodbye to us all on the on the Jun 2, 2014 showing of Monday Night Raw.
Following his departure, he’s been busy stepping up his acting career, playing Bond villain Mr. Hinx in 2015’s Spectre, as well as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy, the sequel to which was released in May of this year.
The heart of the matter
In a transcript courtesy of For The Win, Batista noted:
“The short answer to that is ‘yes, I would love to go back.’ But the reason I have not gone back is because I don’t want to do a one-off. I want to go and I want to wrestle, man. I want to do some house shows and I want to be a part of the program. The one-off thing, the cheap pop thing, it doesn’t do anything for me. So now it’s a matter of scheduling if I could go back, if I happen to get injured is it going to affect something else?”
He also mentioned that he’s stayed in touch with the company, speaking with McMahon recently and making it clear that if he does come back then he wants to feud with Triple H—something he’s already been vocal about in the past.
What's next?
At the moment, this one’s just pure speculation, but with Triple H seemingly having his hands full with one, or both, of Kurt Angle and Braun Strowman, it seems unlikely that a Batista return would be happening anytime soon.
Author’s take
Not to pour cold water on anyone’s hopes, but it’s worth noting that Batista did allude to the risk of getting an injury, and how that might affect his work outside of wrestling. As such, and with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the pipeline, it could be that a comment on a wrestling podcast is as far as this story goes.
