WWE News: Batista gives his honest opinion on The Undertaker's current role
What's the story?
Speaking in an interview with GQ, Batista discussed the match between The Undertaker and Goldberg at WWE Super ShowDown and gave his opinion that WWE could be using “The Deadman” in a better way.
In case you didn't know…
The Undertaker defeated Goldberg in the main event of Super ShowDown in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on June 7.
Although the match started well, it went downhill when Goldberg collided with the ring post and legitimately knocked himself out. From that moment on, the first one-on-one meeting between the two legends was full of awkward mistakes before The Undertaker picked up the win with a chokeslam.
Since the show, ‘Taker has made a sooner-than-expected return to WWE programming and he is currently scheduled to team with Roman Reigns against Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre in a No Holds Barred match at Extreme Rules on July 14.
The heart of the matter
Batista mentioned that he called The Undertaker before Super ShowDown and jokingly attempted to change his mind about competing in the match against Goldberg.
“He said it sounded good when we first started talking about it. I only saw highlights which were, you know, low lights. it was not good. It’s just bad circumstances all the way around. I feel like 'Taker’s there for the right reasons. I think he’s there because he still loves it.”
The former WWE Superstar-turned-movie star added that WWE should try to find a different way to book 54-year-old ‘Taker.
“But I wish that they would utilize him in the right way. I think a novelty match with Goldberg is the wrong way. I just don’t think it’s good for anybody and especially it’s not good for the fans. I wouldn’t have gone to Saudi at all. I don’t care who they would’ve booked me with. I just would not have gone."
What's next?
While The Undertaker prepares to team with Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules, Batista is currently making lots of media appearances to promote his latest movie, Stuber, so expect to read more of his thoughts on WWE in the coming days and weeks.
