Batista is now a bonafide movie star

What's the story?

Batista has kept busy since leaving WWE following WrestleMania XXX. Although he's largely kept away from professional wrestling, the Animal now has a burgeoning silver screen career. Batista's latest movie, Blade Runner 2049, dropped this weekend, and it has already received critical acclaim.

In case you didn't know...

Batista came to the WWE Universe's attention as a deacon, following Brother D-Von around to protect the collections from the former Dudley's strange church. But Batista was soon repackaged as a member of Evolution and used his status to capture plenty of fan support and championship titles.

Batista's most recent return to WWE saw him winning the 2014 Royal Rumble where he would go on to lose a triple threat match at WrestleMania to Daniel Bryan. The Animal's latest run with WWE might have been lacklustre but his career in Hollywood has turned out to be anything but disappointing.

The heart of the matter

Batista has a few movies in the pipeline, including many more appearances as Drax The Destroyer from the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise. But his most recent film Blade Runner 2049 just dropped on Friday and the reviews for this effort are pretty impressive.

Rotten Tomatoes currently lists Blade Runner 2049 with an 89% fresh rating which is pretty phenomenal. To put it into perspective, the popular reboot of Stephen King's It currently has an 85% fresh rating.

What's next?

It's not easy to get that kind of a rating with Rotten Tomatoes. The site uses an algorithm which calculates the general assessment from every review they can find for a film. There were 231 critic reviews taken into consideration to give Blade Runner 2049 an 89% fresh rating which is nothing to sneeze at in the slightest.

Author's take

As Batista's career in Hollywood continues it looks like the opportunities will keep coming for the four-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. At 48-year-old, he still has time to be an action star. After all, if something is too risky for him to participate in, they can always call a stunt double which isn't a luxury he was ever afforded while taking bumps inside the squared circle.
