WWE News: Bayley talks possible heel turn, teaming with Randy Orton
What's the story?
Ahead of her SummerSlam match against Ember Moon, Bayley has revealed that she is open to turning heel one day and that she would like to team with either Rey Mysterio or Randy Orton if the WWE Mixed Match Challenge returns.
In case you didn't know…
The first Women’s Grand Slam winner in WWE history, Bayley has established herself as one of the most influential female Superstars of her generation.
After making her mark in NXT as the NXT Women’s Champion, “The Hugger” moved to WWE’s main roster in July 2016 and went on to win the Raw Women’s Championship, SmackDown Women’s Championship and Women’s Tag Team Championship (w/Sasha Banks).
She is currently preparing to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship, which she won from Charlotte Flair at Money In The Bank in May, against Ember Moon at SummerSlam.
The heart of the matter
Speaking in a conference call before SummerSlam, long-time babyface Bayley said that she would be willing to become a heel if WWE’s decision-makers ever want to drastically change her persona.
“I’m kind of growing as the character and as a person, so I don’t even see it like a character standpoint right now. The way I’m handling things [as the Bayley character] is how I think I would handle situations in my real life. If the day did come where I was told that they wanted me to push to the dark side, I would have no problem with that. I think it would be a lot of fun.”
Regarding a possible male tag team partner in the future, Bayley namechecked two veterans when asked who she would like to join forces with in a future Mixed Match Challenge tournament.
“If I had the choice, I would have to go with Rey Mysterio or Randy Orton. They’re legends, I grew up watching them. They could probably teach me so much in the ring and so much about psychology.”
What's next?
Bayley vs. Ember Moon will be one of the featured matches on a stacked SummerSlam card in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, August 11.
