WWE News: Big Dean Ambrose surgery update and recovery time

Get
Get well soon, Ambrose...

What's the story

Dean Ambrose's injury might have seemed like it was all part of the show, but it turns out The Lunatic Fringe was actually injured during Raw this week. Now WWE is providing an update on Ambrose and although things could be much worse, it still isn't the best news to get this close to Christmas.

In case you didn't know...

Dean Ambrose had an extremely brutal career even before coming to WWE. As part of CZW, he took part in some matches that would make most cringe if they could even watch at all. But it looks like all that damage has finally taken its toll on The Shield's resident cameraman.

Heart of the matter

Dean Ambrose was flown to Birmingham Alabama where he underwent a 40-minute surgery to repair a torn triceps muscle on Tuesday night.

Dr Jeffrey Dugas who performed the operation had the following to report about Ambrose's situation and how the procedure went. Apparently, Dean Ambrose tore his distal triceps tendons where it connects to his forearm bone. This part of the body is called the olecranon and it was the same part of his arm Ambrose was clutching on Raw.

β€œHe basically tore about 50 percent of the triceps tendon away from the bone. So yesterday we repaired that back down to the bone where it tore off of. The surgery was very straightforward; we removed all of the extra bursal tissue β€” all of that extra swollen stuff around his elbow.”

At this time, there is no timeframe for his return but WWE has taken Ambrose off of their advertising for the next few weeks of live shows.

What's next

It would be excellent to hear Dean Ambrose's music break out and see The Lunatic Fringe running to the ring just in time for WrestleMania 34, but the likelihood of that happening is all up to how fast Ambrose's elbow can heal.

Author's take

Injuries never come at a convenient time, but this one is especially sad. After all, alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, Ambrose was running with The Shield once again. It just goes to show that you should never take something or someone for granted because his unique style will certainly be missed on Raw.
