WWE News: Big E reacts to the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view title

Big E is clearly sad he won’t get to participate in the Great Balls Of Fire PPV.

What’s the story?

Monday Night Raw brand will have a new pay-per-view named Great Balls of Fire that will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The arena announced today that the name and it has elicited some hilarious responses:

Big E from The New Day would take to Twitter to take a jab at the name with the following tweet:

In case you didn’t know...

As you may all know. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods) moved over to Smackdown Live in the Superstar Shake-up. They have not made their Smackdown Live debut yet as the WWE is waiting for Kofi to heal from his ankle injury.

The heart of the matter...

The arena tweeted a 30-second promotional video hyping the return of Brock Lensar and his title defence. It will be the first WWE Universal Championship defence for Brock Lesnar since winning the title at WrestleMania from Goldberg. People who saw the tweet discovered the pay per view name at the end of the clip and were pretty shocked by WWE’s awful choice:

“Great Balls of Fire” was the biggest hit by musician Jerry Lee Lewis in 1957. Rolling Stone ranked it as the 97th best song of all-time.

What’s next?

Expect Brock Lensar to return sometime after the Smackdown Live pay per view Money In The Bank on June 18th.  As for Big E, the New Day are expected to make their debut on Smackdown within the next month.

Author’s take...

Who in the world thought “Great Balls Of Fire” would be a great name for a professional wrestling pay per view? Well, the obvious answer is Vince McMahon, but seriously, this is way out there.

When I saw the first story on the name of the pay per view, I thought it was a typo where they meant to say Great American Bash. Maybe Vince came up with this ridiculous name as a smokescreen for the fact that Brock Lesnar will not make his first title defence until July; which is ridiculous within itself.
