WWE News: Big mistake in AJ Styles' segment with Jinder Mahal

Styles has gotten his facts mixed up

What's the story?

On the most recent episode of SmackDown Live, AJ Styles came out and had a segment with Jinder Mahal. Styles claimed that Mahal had beaten everyone on the roster except AJ Styles himself.

Unfortunately for the "Phenomenal One", that statement is far from the truth. Check out the video below.

In case you didn't know...

In their previous match, Styles was facing Mahal, who had just gained the #1 Contender's spot for the WWE Championship. Styles dominated the match, but a distraction from the notorious Singh Brothers allowed Mahal to capitalise.

The match was later won by Mahal thanks to the help of US Champion Kevin Owens, who hit Styles with the title.

The heart of the matter

On the most recent episode of SmackDown Live, AJ Styles interrupted Jinder Mahal when "The Modern Day Maharaja" sent out a challenge to Brock Lesnar.

Mahal had mentioned during his promo before Styles' interruption, that he had defeated everyone on the SmackDown roster and was looking for a new challenge. It was at this point that the "Phenomenal One" intervened.

Styles came out and made a claim that Jinder had beaten everyone on the roster except him.

At the time, the WWE Universe was going crazy over the fact that the Styles was going to be challenging Mahal for the WWE Championship, but what they didn't realise is that Styles has lost to the WWE Champion before. As seen in the video above.

To be more precise, it was on the May 16th, 2017 episode of SmackDown that Mahal pinned Styles after some help from his lackeys the Singh Brothers and then US Champion, Kevin Owe.

What's next?

This error by the WWE creative team may lead to a few questions regarding the functioning and the working of the people backstage.

However, the WWE could use this to their advantage and have Jinder Mahal cut a promo on Styles, saying that Styles is a liar. Only time will tell how things will unfold regarding this mistake.

Author's take

This error is something that the WWE can't afford to make again. It just shows how unconcerned the WWE is with everything revolving around Mahal and his title reign. Even if he has been a poor Champion, it would still be nice to see him become a big name in the promotion and this doesn't really help
