Could we see some surprise Royal Rumble entrants?
Could we see some surprise Royal Rumble entrants?

What's the story?

Stephanie McMahon made history on RAW when she announced the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match in WWE. The response on social media was overwhelmingly positive, and several superstars even teased a surprise appearance during the history making contest.

Superstars, past, present and from NXT teased an appearance in the Royal Rumble match. Here are some of the Tweets.

In case you didn't know...

The Royal Rumble is a concept that started in 1988 and has been an annual feature since. The winner of the Royal Rumble goes on to face the reigning champion at WrestleMania.

The women of WWE have achieved a lot, over the past few years, but the Royal Rumble match is a first for them all. Needless to say, the women in WWE, past and present are all thrilled with the news, and some have even teased an appearance.

The heart of the matter

One of the most exciting parts of the Royal Rumble match is the fact that one never knows who's going to show up when the clock counts down to zero. Several surprise entrants have entered the men's Royal Rumble match in the match's storied history and legacy.

Shortly after the announcement, not only did NXT talents such as Ember Moon, Kairi Sane and MMA legend Shayna Baszler tease an appearance in the Royal Rumble match so did WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. We're certain that there will be more to follow.

What's next?

We're curious to see the build to the Women's Royal Rumble match, and how everything aligns for the same. We should know which RAW and SmackDown Live superstars will be part of it, over the coming weeks. Maybe they'll even announce some of the special entrants!

Author's take

I'm very happy for the women involved. I was around when our team interviewed Sasha Banks in Delhi, during her Indian tour, and she said she believed that the Women's Royal Rumble would happen in the year, 2018, in her own estimation.

I'm glad to see that such is indeed the case!
