WWE News: Booker T lashes out at Brock Lesnar vs AJ Styles; praises Jinder Mahal
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of the Heated Conversations podcast, Booker T lashed out at WWE booking Lesnar vs. Styles.
Additionally, Booker T also had words of high praise for Jinder Mahal.
In case you didn’t know…
Booker T is a highly-respected now-retired performer; renowned for his body of work in WCW and WWE.
The 5-time WCW World Champion is also famous for speaking his mind when it comes to the professional wrestling business—something which sees him occasionally vents out on talent with his critical take on them.
The heart of the matter
Booker T asserted that he’s unimpressed with the ‘balance’ of the matchup between Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles; explaining that it doesn’t make sense because the latter looks like a Middleweight while the Beast is a Heavyweight who moves as fast as a Middleweight.
Furthermore, Booker T compared the fans’ hatred for Jinder Mahal to Sgt. Slaughter’s heel run back in the day; alluding that he finds their hate for the Maharajah rather amusing. He stated:
“I think Jinder Mahal has had a great run (and) I think Jinder Mahal has brought legitimacy to the championship; I (also) think with Jinder Mahal as champion, people look at the WWE Championship now as, you know, we gotta get the title off this guy. It’s almost like that Iron Sheik when he had it back in the day, and Hogan had to get it off of him.”
“Drop the big leg drop, bring America the title back home. This is professional wrestling, what he’s doing… Jinder Mahal has done a great job, and I think he’s been a great champion.”
What’s next?
WWE Champion AJ Styles competes against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at the upcoming Survivor Series PPV on November 19th.
On the other hand, Jinder Mahal’s role at the event seems to be uncertain.
Author’s take
Booker T is spot-on in his analysis of Lesnar vs Styles, however, if there were any smaller man in this business who could make a fight with the Beast Incarnate look believable, it’s got to be AJ Styles.
As regards Booker’s praise for Mahal, it’s well-deserved. The Modern Day Maharajah’s reign as WWE Champion will age well, given the tireless efforts he put him throughout his time at the top.
