WWE News: Booker T talks about his elbow surgery, retirement and more
In the history of WCW, Booker T was one of their most decorated wrestlers, having held 21 titles including a record six WCW World Television Championships, and a record ten WCW World Tag Team Championships as one-half of Harlem Heat with his brother, Lash "Stevie Ray" Huffman. There isn’t too much that he hasn’t achieved over the course of his career. He had an unbelievable career in WCW, WWE and even TNA. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
Booker recently made an appearance on The Roman Show to discuss ways to prevent wrestling injuries and wrestling smarter to enhance lifespan in the ring. He also discussed Ember Moon's debut at NXT, his recent elbow surgery and the upcoming stars from his promotion that were looking to make an impact.
Booker T gave his take on the recent rise of injuries happening in the WWE. He was of the view that the superstars were performing exceptionally well and naturally the bar was set very high. Booker said:
“The bar is higher. The guys want to one up each other. Wrestling for me the way I trained is of doing the art of watching nothing. These guys raise the bar so much. It's inevitable. It's not a matter of if, but it's a matter of when it's going to happen. I think they should work smarter, think about the psychology a little more drawing the fans from a Shakespearean, Phantom of the Opera perspective. They can do it a whole a lot safer."
Booker also revealed that he was impressed by former student Ember Moon’s appearance at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. He said that she was a talented worker and was willing to pay her dues.
"She's everything I expected. When she first came to me she was already talented, she already had the tools. She had to be polished. She had the hunger. She was willing to travel the miles. She was way ahead before she got here. Now she’s got a chance to go out there and show the world."
He also mentioned the likes of Sasha Banks and Finn Balor who had made an impact on the main roster but were sidelined due to injuries. He said that he was looking forward to Samoa Joe making a debut on the main roster.
Booker T also shed light on his surgery that was required to stop an infection in his elbow.
"Injury was caused by over 20 years of doing the Spin-a-roonie. I didn't realize until the Hall of Fame how much pressure this elbow was taking, until that night, when I did the move on the hardwood floor."
Booker also spoke very highly of Brennan Williams who WWE signed recently. He said that Brennan was still a young man who had been under Booker’s wing which would be a valuable experience. Booker said that Brennan was a star in the making and could go on to become the next Alberto Del Rio if given the opportunity.
