What’s the story?

Braun Strowman defeated Roman Reigns in a Steel Cage match after he was aided by "The Big Red Monster" Kane, who made his first appearance since 2016.

In case you didn’t know...

Midway through Monday Night Raw, The Miz requested a fifth man be added to the TLC match this Sunday and General Manager Kurt Angle said he would only honour the request if Strowman beat Reigns in the main event.

He also added a stipulation that if Strowman lost, "The Monster Among Men" would be removed from the TLC match and it would revert to six-man match.

The heart of the matter

Reigns spent most of the match on defence but managed to escape most of Strowman’s big power moves. Reigns attempted to escape the cage, but Cesaro and Sheamus prevented Reigns from exiting. This led to Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins driving The Bar away from ringside and fighting them backstage.

The camera then shifted focus to Cesaro, Sheamus, Ambrose and Rollins brawling backstage which The Miz took advantage of and locked all four men in the backstage area.

Reigns hit Strowman with two Superman Punches and set him up for a Spear, but Strowman attempted a counter and was met with a mid-air Superman Punch for a near fall.

Reigns speared Strowman but was distracted when Kane climbed through the ring to attack Reigns with two Chokeslams and a Tombstone Piledriver. Strowman then went on to hit a Running Powerslam for the victory.

What’s next?

After Strowman won the match, The Miz announced that Kane would be the fifth man in the Handicap TLC match against The Shield this Sunday.

Many fans expected Samoa Joe to be the fifth man but clearly that isn't the case.

Author’s Take

The return of the "Devil’s Favorite Demon" was completely unexpected and may add to the unpredictable nature of this Sunday's match.

Kane was one of The Shield’s first opponents back in 2012 and now he will be their first opponent for their return, but seemingly with a much more personal stake in the matter.
