WWE News: Braun Strowman speaks on getting WWE's attentionĀ

WWE had
WWE had to get these hands

What's the story?

WWE star Braun Strowman recently spoke to WTMJ-TV Milwaukee on a number of topics, one of which was how his strongman history first grabbed WWE's attention and sparking interest in signing him.

In case you didn't know...

Braun competed in countless strong man competitions before signing his first wrestling deal with the company - including the Arnold Amateur World Championship - which he won in 2012.

Braun also won a number of championships including: the 2010 Europa Battle of Champions, 2010 Monster of the Midland, 2011 West Cary Fall Festival of Power, 2011 Summerfest Strongman, 2011 NAS US Amateur National Championships, and the 2011 Central GA Strongest Man. Yes, it's clear to see that Braun had a very successful 2011.

The heart of the matter

While speaking to WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, among what Braun talked about was how his strongman history first got WWE's attention and interest in signing him. Braun commented:

"I won the Arnold Amateur World Championship in 2012 and that's the first time WWE saw me. I met Mark Henry a couple times and we talked. I came out and dominated not only the performance, but hammed it up with the crowd, rippin' my shirt off - doing the whole deal - and having the whole place in a frenzy. It caught their eye and lo and behold, here we are today."

Braun has gone on record for crediting much of his success to Mark Henry.

What's next?

Braun continues to be one of the best things about RAW every Monday night. Fans are hopeful that WWE has big plans for him at WrestleMania 34.

Author's take

Many of the higher ups in WWE, including Vince McMahon himself of course, have always been very high on signing bodybuilders and strongman competition competitiors, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that WWE signed Braun up when they found him.

Admittedly, it's something that hasn't worked out very well in the past, but Braun has been a phenomenal exception to the rule - one which continues to impress.
