What’s the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart was recently a guest on the Sam Roberts Wrestling podcast. During his interview with Roberts, Hart revealed that WWE had offered him to work for the company backstage about four years ago.

In case you didn’t know…

Bret Hart is a former WWF Superstar who worked for the company between 1985 and 1997, before eventually quitting the company in 1997 following the infamous 'Montreal Screwjob'.

Despite departing from the company under bad terms, “The Hitman” remains as one of the most successful Superstars in WWF history, having won the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship, the Tag Team Championship and the WWF World Heavyweight Championship five times.

The heart of the matter

Hart recently sat down with Sam Roberts on his podcast and revealed that a few years ago, he was offered a job as a WWE creative writer.

Hart revealed that it was he who went up to the WWE officials and pitched them the idea of him working backstage as a creative writer. The former World Champion claimed that he could pitch them ideas and helped them with the writing of shows, booking various matches and how storylines would work.

However, Hart stated that the schedule was the main issue why he couldn’t take the job in the first place. He said that he isn’t someone who could be on the road every day with the rest of the crew but could fly in for TV. Hart then added that WWE eventually dropped the idea but both Vince McMahon and Triple H did thank him for the offer.

Hart also said that it was possible for him to work with the WWE creative team 24/7, but he claims that he is happy in his position right now and is enjoying life.

“I have a beautiful house, and life, but you know, working on Monday Night Raw might sound good for me, but realistically maybe they need more; look at their agents: Mike Rotunda, Arn Anderson, whoever they are, they’re on the road all the time with all that consistency and commitment, and I don’t really have that which is why I most likely haven’t got a call”- Bret Hart stated.

What’s next?

Bret Hart currently is enjoying life but also makes one-off sporadic appearances for WWE. He has also played minor roles for Tough Enough and has also appeared on NXT TV on numerous occasions as well.

Author’s Take

Personally, I think Hart would have been a good addition to the WWE creative team and would have helped a lot in terms of booking.

But considering Hart’s health condition, I believe the best choice for him would be to avoid travelling on the road with the WWE team for almost the entire year.
