WWE News: Brock Lesnar didn't want to break the streak
History was made at Wrestlemania XXX and till date, the fans around the world wonder whether it was a botch up or a best-for-business decision. The most controversial match was The Montreal Screwjob but that one event at Wrestlemania XXX made us forget all about it. No one expected the streak to end. No one expected to see 21-1 flashing across the titantron.
In what comes as a new development in regard with 21-1, at a recent event, 'An Evening with Shawn Michaels' in the UK, Jim Ross and The heartbreak kid did the show together. Shawn was asked about the streak being broken and he admitted that he wasn't a fan of the decision and neither was JR. The latter even confessed that Brock wasn't in favour of the decision He revealed that Lesnar didn't want to be the one to break the streak and even agreed to lose the match. But the decision had been made.
Post the main event, Shawn and other former champions were supposed to go the ring and celebrate Daniel Bryan's victory but looking at the crowd's reaction after the streak ended, Brock left the Superdome early and didn't participate in the celebrations.
Shawn believes that Lesnar had to win that match against The Undertaker. He had to become the ultimate heel and added that another loss would have derailed his character in the WWE even more. He thinks the match should have never been booked and the result, of course, didn't make anyone happy.
Brock Lesnar along with Heyman, had a huge responsibility on their shoulders of carrying the broken The Streak and till date, they are doing quite it well.
'Eat Sleep Conquer The Streak' is what became their motto and as Shawn puts it, they treated the ending of the streak as their crowning achievement by giving Undertaker his due respect. Till this very date, the ending of the streak is widely debated. We all know that The Phenom was rushed to the hospital after the match, but was it actually Lesnar's mistake? We all know what he is capable of.
It is widely acknowledged that the first signs of the streak ending were seen at the infamous encounter between The Undertaker and Lesnar at UFC 121. Undertaker confronted Lesnar after his loss and provoked the Beast.
After the streak-ending match match, the internet was ablaze with conspiracy theories with retired professional wrestlers voicing their opinions on what had happened. Many thought it was a grave error.
Even Heyman on 'An Evening With Paul Heyman' added fuel to the conspiracy theories that the streak was not meant to be broken. He said: “What if Brock wanted to actually pin The Undertaker, he didn't want to lose. If he did that no one will be able to fire him..”
Whatever may be the case, Brock Lesnar’s career has skyrocketed to unparalleled heights after conquering the streak. Do you think it was the right decision?
