WWE News: Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg didn't increase WWE Raw viewership by much
The WWE Universe watched in shock and awe as Goldberg finally destroyed the Beast. The match was hyped for months, and at Survivor Series, Goldberg laid Lesnar to rest in little over a minute. Social media exploded after the main event and many speculated about the reason Goldberg went over Lesnar in the way that he did.
It is believed that one of the primary reasons behind having Goldberg squash Lesnar is to attract the casual viewers. Vince has always been an advocate of what is best for business and Goldberg taking down the Beast Incarnate is a moment that will go down in WWE history.
Naturally, it was expected that the viewership for RAW the following night with soar through the roof.
The November 21st episode of Monday Night RAW, emanating from the Great White North, garnered about 3,002,000 viewers, going up from last week’s meagre 2,878,000 viewers. However, the views didn’t soar as high as expected. After the buzz generated by the unusually strange booking, even by WWE standards, the RAW numbers were not impressive.
In fact, the Monday Night RAW episode after the brand split had done better with 3,33,900 views.
Monday Night RAW started off strong with 3,137,000 viewers, but as the night progressed, and the third hour started, the viewership went down to 2,772,000. However, there were a few notable highlights from the show like Goldberg’s announcement that he would enter the Royal Rumble, and Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho’s entertaining segment on ‘The Highlight Reel’.
Monday Night RAW got off to a grand start in Toronto, as Goldberg took centre stage to talk about his emphatic win over Lesnar. Amidst deafening chants of ‘Goldberg, Goldberg’ the WCW icon thanked his family. Then Goldberg went on to make the most memorable announcement of the night as he revealed that he would be a part of the Royal Rumble match next year.
