WWE News: Jeff Hardy breaks a tooth during encounter at WWE Payback 2017
What’s the story?
You don’t wrestle a high impact style like Jeff Hardy has all these years and not suffer a few injuries. While Hardy’s injury during the Hardy Boyz’s [SPOILER] successful title defence against Sheamus and Cesaro isn’t enough to keep him out of action, it certainly fits his former “broken” personality.
The background
Raw Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy defended their titles at Payback in a very exciting and competitive match that saw Jeff lose his tooth following a kick to the face. After the Hardyz retained, Sheamus and Cesaro attacked the champs from behind and put a vicious beatdown on them.
The heart of the matter
After the match, Jeff received medical treatment for his injury, which was featured in this YouTube video posted shortly after the event in San Jose.
As you can see, the injury isn’t exactly career threatening and Hardy seems to be handling it pretty well. That being said, Matt Hardy and his broken brilliance took to Twitter to issue a couple of warnings to their foes.

What’s next?
Well, Raw is tomorrow, so we won’t have to wait long to see how the champs respond to this assault. Whether this is the impetus for them to go all-out “broken” remains to be seen.
Also, in a sketch during the pre-show, The Golden Truth asked for – and were granted – a title match with the Matt and Jeff, provided they won, so we’ll have to wait and see if they’re involved in this angle come tomorrow night.
Author’s take
I’m as anxious as all of you to see if, when, and how the WWE eventually makes use of the “Broken” gimmick. But, the company also doesn’t seem to be in a big rush to do it, either.
And, can you blame them? Right now, Matt is walking that fine line between being the “Team Xtreme” guy that WWE fans remember and the “Broken” guy more recent/Internet fans know. If and when they pull the trigger on this, it’ll be huge.
Oh, right. Also... we hope Jeff recovers well from his broken tooth. Tooth pain is THE WORST.
