What’s the story?

In an interview with Newsweek, former WWE on-screen talent and producer Bruce Prichard opened up on a myriad of topics.

Prichard addressed the WWE’s portrayal of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, and how overexposing a talent makes the fans complacent and used to the talent. Besides, Prichard also revealed The Undertaker’s latest physical status.

In case you didn’t know…

Since returning to the WWE in 2012, Brock Lesnar has been working on a part-time schedule in the WWE, which has him compete in the most high profile matches in the WWE.

The professional wrestling community has been divided in its opinion regarding Lesnar being accorded top billing in the WWE despite his part-time status—with his critics asserting that the main event spot accorded to Lesnar ought to be given to full-time performers.

The heart of the matter

On WWE’s portrayal of Brock Lesnar in the WWE Universal title match against Roman Reigns, Bruce Prichard stated—

“It depends on your perspective…In a situation where Brock is champion, he’s coming in for a certain number of days doing what he does, and when he comes in, he draws people. People are interested in what he does—so from my point of view, not having to overexpose the talent is a great thing—people become complacent and used to the talent. When you’re only getting them every once in a while, that adds to the talent’s mystique.”

Additionally, Prichard explained that irrespective of whether it is Lesnar’s or the WWE’s idea, it’s a good strategy for the big draw to be seen in a limited way.

Furthermore, expounding upon The Undertaker’s physical state, Prichard recalled that he saw the Deadman recently at Thanksgiving, and he’s never seen Undertaker look so good in 10-15 years. Prichard added that The Phenom was skipping up steps and looked great.

What’s next?

WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is set to defend his title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 which takes place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on 8 April.

Also on the card, John Cena is rumoured to be facing The Undertaker in a Singles Match—with said matchup yet to be confirmed by the WWE.

Author’s take

Honestly speaking, Bruce Prichard is spot-on with his analysis of Brock Lesnar appearing sporadically on WWE programming. After all the old adage does teach one that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Meanwhile, it's awesome to hear that The Undertaker is doing well on the physical front. Here’s hoping we get to see the legendary Deadman wrestle one more match at WrestleMania.
