WWE News: Bully Ray reveals how Dolph Ziggler could revive his career
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray aka Bubba Ray Dudley revealed how Dolph Ziggler could revive his career.
Bully asserted that Ziggler could benefit from leaving the WWE and reinventing himself outside the promotion right now. Besides, Ray also expounded upon a few details which could help the ‘Showoff’ turn around his struggling career.
In case you didn’t know…
Dolph Ziggler is a decorated amateur wrestler and has performed for the WWE since 2004 when he first appeared as a member of the all-male cheerleading faction The Spirit Squad. But after a little more time in developmental after DX school them for the last time, he re-emerged as Dolph Ziggler and the rest is history.
Having experienced time as a main event Superstar briefly back in 2012/13, Ziggler has been relegated to the mid-to-low card as of late. The former World Heavyweight Champion has also been quite vocal about his disappointment regardings his push time and again and has alluded that he’d be leaving the WWE very soon.
The heart of the matter
Addressing Dolph Ziggler’s conundrum, Bully Ray elucidated that the former has the ‘curse of the worker’ stigma attached to his name meaning that since Ziggler can wrestle any kind of match with any style of wrestler and still put on a great show he often finds himself in matchups that don’t benefit his career in any way. Ray added that the stereotypical ‘good worker’ in pro wrestling may occasionally be inserted into the main event scene but quickly parked back in the mid-to-lower card.
Additionally, Ray pointed out the incredible reaction Ziggler received when he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to become World Heavyweight Champion. But the Showoff was inexplicably demoted to the lower rungs yet again to have him fulfil the ‘good worker’ slot. Ray said presently, Ziggler finds himself in pro wrestling quicksand, a situation where no matter how much one tries to better their career, they’re pulled back down again.
Ray also emphasized that Ziggler could likely leave the WWE now with the best option for him being performing for House Of Hardcore and ROH.
“He's still going out there and trying to steal the show every night, so he's still passionate about it. He's just so unhappy. He's stuck in a perpetual state of mediocrity. He's in what I like to call wrestling quicksand— every single time you try to get out, you get sucked back down lower, and after a while, man does that get frustrating."
What’s next?
Dolph Ziggler relinquished his WWE United States Championship on SmackDown Live and will be off WWE’s SmackDown Live television programming over the next few weeks as part of a storyline.
Nevertheless, fans can indeed catch Ziggler performing at a few upcoming WWE live events against this guy.
Author’s take
Dolph Ziggler is an excellent athlete and one of the most underappreciated talents today.
Ziggler works incredibly hard, but never quite gets the respect he deserves. Perhaps Bully Ray is right in saying Ziggler could and probably should revamp his whole persona, his character and style outside the WWE, and come back anew.
