WWE News: Chad Gable and The Usos react to the finish of their match
What's the story?
This week's edition of WWE SmackDown Live kicked off the New Year with a Tag Team Championship match featuring Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin taking on The Usos.
The match appeared to have ended with Gable and Benjamin picking up a victory to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. However, the ending was a classic Dusty finish, and the match had to restart, with The Usos retaining their tag titles.
Chad Gable later took to Twitter to express his opinion on the entire matter.
In case you didn't know...
Previously, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin had failed to defeat The Usos in the Fatal Fourway Tag Team match at the Clash of Champions but registered a victory over them in a Non-Title match following the pay-per-view.
The following week, on Boxing Day's episode of SmackDown Live, they defeated Aiden English and Rusev, and the New Day, to earn the Number One Contender's spot for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Usos.
The heart of the matter
The SmackDown Tag Team Championship bout saw controversy this week. At one point during the match, it looked like Gable and Benjamin had won the Titles, but as Gable had not been the legal man when he pinned Jimmy Uso, who was also not legal at that time, the match had to restart.
Eventually, The Usos won the match and retained their titles, much to the disgust of Gable and Benjamin. Gable took to Twitter to call it a 'joke' and his anger was understandable, as he had to cut short a visit to Disneyland with his family to appear on SmackDown Live.
The Usos also expressed their opinion on Twitter, celebrating their title win, saying that the New Year had changed nothing for them.
What's next?
The Tag Team scene on SmackDown Live is one of the best features of the show at the moment. The Usos have retained their titles, and the next episode of SmackDown Live may determine whom they face next.
Author's take
The Usos have been one of the best Tag Teams in WWE over the past year, and despite the controversy, they started 2018 strong retaining their titles. Gable and Benjamin will have to continue their quest for Tag Team glory.
