WWE News: Charlotte changes her in-ring name
One of the biggest challenges that Charlotte (real name Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr) has had to face is to prove the critics wrong, who believed that her achievements were only due to her father’s name.
She has been the workhorse of the female division for the past 15 months since she debuted and has always avoided using her father’s name (though she used his help during his initial main roster phase). It looks like she is going to be using the Flair name as her in-ring name has officially been changed to Charlotte Flair according to WWE.com
The two-time Raw Women’s Champion was referred to as Charlotte Flair for the first time last night on Raw. She has even updated her Twitter and Instagram bio to Charlotte Flair. Even the latest WWE YouTube videos about her use that name.
Despite using the name, she abandoned her father Ric Flair on the Raw after Extreme Rules in an emotional segment and replaced him with Dana Brooke as her sidekick. One of the exceptional things Charlotte has done in the past 15 months is having recreated her character and making the most out of her heel persona.
She is one of the very few heels on the entire roster to get genuine heat from the crowd, even when she is out of character (for example, at NXT Takeover Brooklyn: II, when Bayley went to hug Charlotte after her match against Asuka, the Brooklyn crowd passionately booed).
It will be interesting to see whether the addition of “Flair” to her in-ring name will make any difference in her future storylines and character development. The smallest of things can sometimes make the biggest difference, but if the #3 overall draft pick’s progress is any indication, she has proved that she can make gold out of anything.
Here is the emotional contract signing that took place between Sasha Banks and Charlotte in the go-home show before Hell In A Cell this past Monday Night
