WWE News: Charlotte faces backstage heat for SummerSlam match against Sasha Banks
The Women’s Championship has gained a lot of prestige in the WWE following its unveiling at this year’s Wrestlemania. Charlotte was the Women’s Champion heading into the WWE brand split. However, the title changed hands on the 25 July episode of Monday Night RAW when Sasha Banks won it from Charlotte amidst jubilant celebrations and fans chanting “You deserve it”. However, her title reign was short lived as Charlotte reclaimed the Women’s Championship in a hard fought rematch at SummerSlam.
The two girls put on a show at the biggest event of the summer and the match turned out to be quite the spectacle. Some fans were upset that Banks lost, but this was done mainly due to Sasha being hurt. Charlotte made sure to go after the injured back, which would allow for Banks to leave with a legitimate back injury and come back to seek revenge on the woman who took her out of action.
However, the two looked a bit stiff in the ring during their match at SummerSlam. Charlotte essentially dropped Banks from the top rope while trying to perform a move which led to a nasty landing on the neck for “The Boss”. The announcers seemed to know where the two were going with the move, as they claimed Sasha may have hurt her back on the move.
For the remainder of the match, Charlotte focused her attack on the lower back of Sasha Banks. Thankfully, Banks was not hurt any more than she already was going into the match. However, it can be said that they did go too far in it than they truly needed to. Despite the match being a little sloppy, the two women managed to weave a story within the ring, but WWE officials aren’t letting the big mistakes that were made by Charlotte go so easily.
PWMania reports that Charlotte was yelled at after the match for being careless with Sasha, as she and everyone else knew Banks was injured going into the match. While the back was the primary focus in the match for that very reason, officials were right to be mad due to the fact that Charlotte did some moves that could be considered “stiff” and could have had a devastating effect on Sasha’s back.
In the meantime, Banks was greeted with some good news. She was recently informed that she will not require surgery for her back injury. That puts her return time somewhere around WWE Clash of Champions, which is surely an interesting time to make a return, if not she will be returning the following night on WWE Raw. Mick Foley had earlier made it clear that Sasha will get her title shot upon her return. So a possible Women’s Title rematch in October could be in the cards for sure.
