WWE News: Charlotte Flair comments on a possible WrestleMania match against Asuka
What’s the story?
While recently speaking with Hollywood Life, WWE SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair discussed the possibility of a potential match against “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka at WrestleMania 34.
In case you didn’t know…
Earlier in the year, former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka created history by becoming the winner of the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match, when the Japanese Superstar outlasted 29 other participants from the past, present, and some of the future stars of NXT.
By winning the Rumble match, Asuka gained herself an opportunity to challenge for either the Raw or SmackDown Live Women’s Championship.
The heart of the matter
During her interview with Hollywood Life, Charlotte spoke about a host of topics and here are the highlights from it:
On a potential WrestleMania bout against Asuka:
Charlotte Flair stated that streaks are meant to be broken and remained confident of the fact that she would be the first woman in the WWE to beat “The Empress of Tomorrow” and eventually end her undefeated streak.
Charlotte believes that “The Empress” vs “The Queen” is definitely going to be a WrestleMania moment.
“I want to break her streak. I want to be that woman who can say, ‘I beat Asuka!”
The type of match she prefers with Asuka:
Charlotte Flair claimed that she has previously put a lot of thought into a gimmick match between her and Asuka, however, according to “The Queen”, she thinks that a regular match will be much more special.
The SmackDown Women’s Champion additionally said that no one had ever seen her and Asuka in the ring together before and considering their different styles and backgrounds, she felt that there is no need for an enhancement or name on the match between her and Asuka.
"You know, I thought about that. Maybe like a “Falls Count Anywhere” match or an “Iron Woman” [match] but I think what will be so special is a regular match.
I don’t think it needs any enhancement or name on the match. I think just seeing us go at it on the biggest stage of all is just as exciting."
What’s next?
Charlotte Flair’s next defense of the SmackDown Live Women’s Title is currently scheduled for this Sunday against the leader of The Riott Squad, Ruby Riott, who gets her shot at “The Queen” and her title at the Fastlane pay-per-view.
Author’s take
Charlotte Flair and Asuka are undeniably two of the very best female Superstars in today’s WWE and a match between them at 'The Grandest Stage of Them All' will be truly historic and iconic.
