What's the story?

Former Divas, RAW and NXT Women's Champion, Charlotte Flair, was a guest on the Baby Huey and Bimbo Jimbo show recently, discussing a variety of topics.

One of the topics that came up during the conversation, was the appearance of Ronda Rousey, at ringside, during the Mae Young Classic and Charlotte Flair had a very positive outlook about it.

In case you didn't know...

The Mae Young Classic was a 32 woman tournament featuring talent from across the world, competing to pay homage to Mae Young, a legend who paved the way for countless women. The Horsewomen of MMA, including Ronda Rousey, were at ringside to support tournament finalist Shayna Baszler.

There was much speculation that this appearance would be used by Rousey, as a tool, to get into WWE as a sports entertainer.

The heart of the matter

Charlotte Flair thought that Ronda Rousey's appearance was a good sign for the WWE Women's Division (H/T Cageside Seats):

Absolutely! For sure, and I think it’s great she was around the Mae Young Classic whether she’s interested in coming to WWE or not. It just creates buzz for the women’s division, and any time there’s more eyes outside of our regular audience that’s put on the women’s division is great.

WWE has always relied on cross-promotion to attract new fans to their business. As we saw from Mayweather vs. McGregor, cross-promotion can yield huge returns for both sports.

What's next?

Charlotte Flair is the number one contender for the SmackDown Women's Championship currently held by Natalya, following an explosive main event match, this week.

Author's take

One cannot help but agree with Charlotte Flair, and her assessment. Ronda Rousey is a household name, and her appearance made the Mae Young Classic feel larger than life.

If her WWE run does happen, it could attract many new viewers to sports entertainment, and MMA too!
