What's the story?

Charlotte Flair shocked the wrestling world by tapping out Asuka on tonight's SmackDown Live and winning the SmackDown Women's Title.

Shockinly, this was only Charlotte Flair's first win in WWE in 2019.

In case you didn't know. . .

Charlotte Flair made history tonight on SmackDown Live when she defeated Asuka for the SmackDown Women's Title. The Queen has now crossed Trish Stratus' record of 7 title wins.

The original match planned for tonight's show was a Fatal Four Way #1 contender's match for the title at WrestleMania. That didn't happen though, as the match was scrapped at the last moment and we got Asuka vs Charlotte instead. The 4 women didn't seem to be too amused with the decision to scrap the match.

After a hard fought match, Charlotte made Asuka tap out, just like she did a year ago at WrestleMania 34. She is going into WrestleMania 35's main event as the SmackDown Women's Champion.

The heart of the matter

This was Charlotte Flair's first win in 2019. She went through a string of losses before tonight and her last televised win was way back in December, again, against Asuka.

Here's the list of all of Charlotte's televised matches in 2019, according to CageMatch.net.

1. Lynch defeats Carmella & Flair in a triple threat match (SmackDown Live, Jan. 8)
2. Lynch wins the women’s Royal Rumble match (Royal Rumble 2019, Jan. 27)
3. Lynch defeats Flair by disqualification (Fastlane 2019, Mar. 10)
4. Flair vs. Riott ends in a Time Limit Draw (Raw, Mar. 25)
5. Flair defeats Asuka (SmackDown Live, Mar. 26)

What's next?

Looking at how the WWE Universe demeans Charlotte Flair for getting protected a lot, the reality seems to be far from this notion.
