WWE News: Charlotte Flair wishes she'd been more supportive of Ric Flair's career
What's the story?
When you have a father like Charlotte Flair does, sometimes his profession can be underappreciated. She grew up around pro wrestling so it was never quite clear how important her father was.
She recently spoke to Brian Campbell of In This Corner podcast where she said when she looks back she wished she had been more supportive of her father's career.
In case you didn't know
WrestleMania 33 was very special for Charlotte Flair because she walked to the ring in the same building which hosted her father's final WWE match in 2008. She's done a lot in her career so far and has a lot of amazing moments in store for her.
She was there for Ric Flair's retirement match against Shawn Michaels and looks back at that day fondly. But she also wishes she would have been more understanding of the legendary career her father was giving up.
The heart of the matter
While speaking to Brian Campbell, Charlotte discussed what it was like to be in the Citrus Bowl for WrestleMania 24 to watch "The Nature Boy" vs "The Heartbreak Kid". She remembers looking up at her father and remembering all of the fights she had about his career.
Charlotte admitted she was very hard to her father and was frustrated with him. She couldn't understand why he was having such a hard time giving up the career he had been on top of for so long.
"So, I couldn’t grasp why, and then where I am today, and working on the book for two years and being a part of WWE, I just wish I could go back in time and acted differently and had been more supportive of my Dad, because now I can’t imagine not doing this. Nothing is like the rush of a crowd, or walking through for your entrance in ‘gorilla.’"
What's next?
Now that Charlotte and her famous father share the experience of being in the WWE limelight, she can see things through her father's eyes. The future looks bright for both Ric and Charlotte Flair at this point.
With Ric Flair's recent remarkable recovery from illness, he has promised to turn a new leaf and stop drinking. His daughter, Charlotte Flair is still in her prime and although she's waiting in the wings at the moment she's sure to be back on top eventually.
Author's take
Ric Flair's career meant a lot to a ton of people. This is why everyone got so worried when he got sick before SummerSlam. But Charlotte Flair was there and saw a side of "The Nature Boy" nobody else did. It became routine to her and not that big of a deal.
It's similar to if your dad was an ice cream salesman, so you didn't think it was that big of a deal when the lunch at school included ice cream. Only instead of ice cream, Charlotte's father was the Stylin' and Profilin' Ric Flair.
