WWE News: Chris Jericho describes NJPW as 'overrated'
What's the story?
New Japan Pro Wrestling is a promotion that has recently gained much popularity, with a host of fast paced matches and six star performances from Wrestling Observer. Not everyone is really a fan of the style of wrestling, however.
Chris Jericho was asked on Twitter what he felt about New Japan Pro Wrestling. His reply was quite unexpected...truth be told:
In case you didn't know...
New Japan Pro Wrestling was a promotion that started in 1972, and is characterized by the use of strong style, during their matches. Over the past few years, it has become more popular than ever, with the formation of the Bullet Club and the Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega trilogy of matches.
Despite the acclaim, many established wrestlers have expressed their disdain for the style of wrestling, with far too many kick outs as compared to the WWE style.
The heart of the matter
Jericho has always been an outspoken performer and a complete company guy. He has carved a niche for himself in the WWE style, and has excelled in it, over the years. New Japan Pro Wrestling presents sports entertainment in a different manner, and is not to everyone's liking. The stories are told inside the ring, and the presentation is far more 'sports' than entertainment.
Another possibility is that Jericho could just be trolling us.
What's next?
Expect massive outrage for Jericho's comments on NJPW on Twitter. Fans are always sensitive when it comes to the promotion, and backlash is inevitable. Who knows if Jericho wanted to troll his fans and just watch the world burn?
Author's take
If you ask me, Jericho is not trolling his fans and is instead, telling the truth. Jericho thrives on telling stories with catchphrases, reinventing his character time and again, and creating compelling feuds, in addition to excelling inside the ropes. If he is trolling though, he certainly got me!
