WWE News: Chris Jericho gives his thoughts on Neville's reported WWE departure
What's the story?
Chris Jericho made a guest appearance on the latest edition of Busted Open Radio.
Y2J, as outspoken as ever, weighed in on Neville's rumoured exit from the WWE on the show. Jericho offered some support for 'The Man That Gravity Forgot'.
In case you didn't know...
Last week, it came out that two-time WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville had requested his release from WWE.
Neville was apparently frustrated with WWE for booking him to lose his Cruiserweight Title to Enzo Amore at No Mercy.
More salt was added to the wound when Neville found out WWE creative was going to have him lose to Amore again in a rematch on last week's Raw, this time in a clean defeat.
Neville also had grievances with the company for the way they left his match with Austin Aries at the WM 33 Kickoff Show off the WrestleMania DVD. This meant he missed out on big royalties from the DVD sales.
These reasons lead to Neville allegedly asking for his release and it is not known what his situation with WWE is now.
WWE has not commented definitively on the issue.
The heart of the matter
Chris Jericho appeared on Busted Open Radio and gave his view on Neville seemingly leaving WWE.
Jericho said that he was not 'surprised' by the rumoured departure, as he thinks Neville has a lot 'higher potential' than that of being a Cruiserweight.
Despite the fact that exiting WWE is a life-changing choice, Y2J thinks Neville can be just as 'successful' away from WWE as someone like Cody Rhodes.
Jericho proclaimed Neville has fantastic in-ring skills, a great character and a high-intelligence, and that these three attributes mean Neville can shine outside of WWE with the 'bigger opportunity' he will probably get on the Indies or anywhere else that he wishes to go to.
Jericho's highest compliment of the high-flyer was that he said their matches together were 'great' and that Neville has the same type of ability in the ring as the late Chris Benoit.
What's next?
Fans are still waiting for confirmation of Neville's departure. Once it is properly announced that his release has been granted, and he has served his 90-day no-compete clause, Neville will probably start wrestling on the Indies again.
In relation to Jericho, I do hope he does not take too long in coming back to WWE from his music. His entertaining ways are truly being missed.
Author's take
I agree with most of Jerico's praise regarding Neville. Neville is an amazing talent and I think he will do wonders outside of the WWE.
However, I did believe WWE was going to push Neville outside of the Cruiserweight Division as a normal singles star after taking the CW title off him, and that maybe Neville could be making a hasty decision in departing.
But saying that, you never know what goes on behind the curtains to make someone carry out such a life-altering decision.
I hope we find out more about the whole situation soon.
