WWE News: Chris Jericho goes off script with a shoot argument on RAW
This week's RAW saw a scary incident during the Jericho-Neville match after Neville sustained an injury, later diagnosed as a broken ankle and shinbone. Due to the injury happening mid-match courtesy of a baseball slide, the finish of the bout had to be changed at the very last moment.
Jericho – being the veteran that he is – took control of the proceedings and informed the referee Charles Robinson, that he would be ending the match after rolling up Neville. Robinson didn’t end the match and did his job by stopping the pin on seeing Neville’s shoulder up at 2.
Jericho was infuriated after this and went on to argue with the ref while stating that Neville was hurt and the match had to be ended. Robinson was physically shoved around by Y2J that forced his disqualification and eventually brought the match to a close.
The argument between Jericho and referee Robinson was indeed a work and part of a shoot to end the match abruptly. Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer notes, that things were quite awkward between Robinson, Y2J and the rest in the ring when the spot happened, but everything settled down once they proceeded backstage.
Jericho even tweaked his post-match promo directed towards AJ Styles after the unusual finish to the bout after which Styles came out to deliver the Phenomenal forearm to lay out Y2J.
