WWE News: Chris Jericho reveals how much Vince McMahon knew about Kenny Omega match
What's the story?
Chris Jericho recently appeared on The Ross Report, where he talked about the tour with his band, and his match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 as well. On the podcast, Jericho also revealed whether Vince McMahon had known that he would take part in a match with Kenny Omega at the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12.
In case you didn't know...
Chris Jericho recently appeared on the big screen at NJPW Power Struggle and challenged Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Omega accepted Jericho's challenge for the Tokyo Dome. It had been expected by the fans that Ibushi and Omega would face each other at the pay-per-view, and the reveal of Jericho as opponent shocked the world.
It came as a shock as this was the first time that Jericho was scheduled to wrestle in a match outside WWE after 1999. There was also a lot of speculation about how Vince McMahon had reacted to the announcement of the match.
The heart of the matter
On the Ross Report, Jim Ross asked Chris Jericho how much Vince McMahon had been aware of about the match. Jericho took the opportunity to clear the air and had a few good things to say about Vince McMahon.
Jericho said that despite the impression that fans had of Vince, he knew what's best for business. He also said that his appearance in NJPW helps WWE as well, with competition rising between the two promotions.
Jericho said that he had a great relationship with Vince McMahon and he would not hurt that in any way. While he did not specifically say that he told Vince McMahon, he made clear that Vince had known about it.
“You know how smart I am throughout my career, and you know the relationship I have with Vince, and I would never jeopardize that, or give him any nasty surprises. So, I’ll just leave it at that.”
What's next?
Chris Jericho is set to take on Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12, on the 4th of January.
Author's take
Jericho and Omega are sure to have an amazing match with the experience and ability that the two share between them.
Vince McMahon is unlikely to be too angry at Jericho as this will definitely help WWE and increase awareness among Japanese wrestling fans.
