WWE News: CM Punk takes a shot at Lebron James
CM Punk is in the news again. This time, the former WWE champion and mixed martial artist, Punk took shots at professional basketball player, LeBron James.
Punk appeared on CSN Chicago as a guest to cover the victory celebration and parade of the World Series champions, the Chicago Cubs. A Chicago native himself, Punk has closely been associated with the city and its sports teams, especially the Blackhawks.
During the segment, Punk implied that James was a bandwagon Cleveland Indians fan, who latched on to the team in the postseason.
Punk was quoted as saying:
“He’s a guy who was criticised because maybe six months ago, he was at an Indians game and he was wearing a Yankees hat. Proudly. He takes it off his head and he shows everybody. I don’t know what he’s thinking … To wear a Yankees hat while going to an Indians game, to me, is kind of crazy. Now all of a sudden, LeBron James is all ‘Cleveland against the world.'”
Punk was referring to a game where LeBron had worn a New York Yankees hat to an Indians game.
The sporting fraternity was quick to lash out at Punk, saying that he was better off minding his own business. Punk’s remarks were termed as unnecessary by many, keeping in mind that LeBron personally has no beef with him. Moreover, LeBron James is considered as a hero in Cleveland, after a successful season with NBA champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.
Punk has had a bad history with the city of Cleveland, as he was thrashed by Mickey Gall in a little over two minutes, at the Quicken Loans Arena, in one of the biggest letdowns of the year. It was in the same city that Punk had walked out of the WWE, the night after the Royal Rumble 2014.
Interestingly, this is the same arena that is home to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
A video was posted on Twitter with Punk’s comments on James.
