WWE News: Cody Rhodes discusses the JBL bullying situation

Cody Rhodes talks about the controversial bullying subject in a recent interview

What’s the story?

Cody Rhodes recently sat down with Baby Huey and Bimbo Jimbo from California’s 107.7 The Bone to discuss several topics. They discussed one of the hottest subjects in professional wrestling today, the claims of JBL’s bullying. Rhodes said that in his time in the WWE, he never saw any bullying.

In case you didn’t know...

Rhodes started his professional wrestling career in 2006.  He worked the Ohio Valley Wrestling territory and would begin his career forming a tag team with Shawn Spears (better known now as Tye Dillinger).

The heart of the matter

Cody would further explain on the controversy with the following:

“I’ve known JBL since I first got there ya know in 2007…I never encountered that with John at all. Wrestling isn’t for everybody though. It’s not bullying sometimes when it’s just playful ribbing… I never personally saw any bullying the entire time, and I was there for 11 years, and in every locker room.”

It is possible that Cody wasn’t directly the subject of bullying due to his family’s legacy. There could be an unwritten rule for a wrestler whose father and brother were fixtures within the company.

On the other side of the coin, most instances of bullying probably occur in private.  That would mean no matter how long you’re with a company, it is possible that you would never see someone bullying another person.

What’s next?

JBL continues as the color commentator for Smackdown Live on Tuesdays with Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton. Cody will take part in the War of the World tour and pay-per-view for Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, which starts on May 7th

Author’s take

It is interesting to hear a professional wrestler’s side of the story; however, it doesn’t change my opinion of JBL.

I understand the playful ribbing that goes on in the company, but there is a point where someone crosses the line. There has been plenty of evidence from several individuals recently that have indicated that JBL has crossed the line multiple times.
