What’s the story?

Cody Rhodes lashed out at WWE NXT’s live event, during a promo at ROH’s house show—both of which took place on November 17th.

Cody asserted that ROH’s live event was sold out; while the NXT house show which was underway in the same area wasn’t.

In case you didn’t know…

Cody Rhodes performed for the WWE from 2006-16.

The 32-year-old performer parted ways with the WWE last year, and has found considerable success outside WWE since.

The heart of the matter

Cody Rhodes recently signed a deal with ROH and presently holds the ROH World Championship. Also, one ought to note that both NXT and ROH held their respective house shows in San Antonio, Texas on November 17th.

Addressing the two live events going head-to-head, Cody took a jab at WWE’s recent ‘cease and desist’ order disallowing The Young Bucks from using the trademark nWo ‘Too Sweet’ gesture—the rights of which are owned by WWE. In fact, Cody proceeded to not only speak about it but also mockingly attempted to pull off the Too Sweet fist bump.

Furthermore, Cody emphasized that ROH’s house show was sold out; besides alleging that NXT’s event in the vicinity had trouble pushing tickets—something that his wife Brandi Rhodes doubled down upon by Tweeting about the great meet-n-greet turnover and options in today’s pro-wrestling scene.

What’s next?

Cody Rhodes presently performs for ROH, besides competing for NJPW as well. He recently clarified that he won’t be appearing for WWE’s Starrcade live event—a concept that his late-father Dusty Rhodes came up with.

Author’s take

Cody seems to be having a great time outside the WWE, but he perhaps ought to refrain from burning bridges with the company which helped him gain global notoriety.

Besides, given NXT’s recent track record and statistics, the brand’s live events are doing quite well, as opposed to what Cody would have you believe. The numbers don’t lie, do they?
