What’s the story?

Ring of Honor World Champion Cody Rhodes earlier this week did a question & answer session via his official Twitter account.

During the Q&A session, Cody revealed why he decided to bring back the classic WWF Intercontinental Championship back in 2011 when he was a part of the WWE roster.

In case you didn’t know…

Cody Rhodes is the son of legendary Dusty Rhodes and is also a former WWE superstar who was signed by Vince McMahon’s promotion back in 2006 under the OVW brand.

Rhodes wrestled for WWE for a total of ten years before eventually walking out on the company in 2016, due to creative mishandling the former Intercontinental Champion.

However, during his time with the promotion Cody was known for portraying many different gimmicks such as “Dashing Cody Rhodes” and also playing the mysterious “Stardust” character as well.

In 2011, Rhodes won his first IC Championship in the WWE and would later that year go on to debut a new design for the belt that was almost as identical to the title’s classic 1980s design.

The heart of the matter

During his Twitter question & answers session, earlier this week, a fan asked “The American Nightmare” why he decided to bring back the classic title design with a strap on it and not the standard black color.

Cody would go on to respond to the tweet by stating that anything was better than the oval design WWE used for the Intercontinental Championship—prior to Cody changing the title’s design.

He would then add to his tweet by saying that he wished that WWE had used multiple colored straps for the title, instead of just using the white strap.

What’s next?

Cody is currently working for Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling and also is also wrestling all over the Independent scene. He is the current ROH World Champion and is part of the Japanese faction Bullet Club. “The American Nightmare” is currently focusing on his work on both American and Japanese soil.

Author’s Take

In my opinion, I think Cody’s tweet goes on to show what a hard-working wrestler he actually is. It also shows that how much creativity Cody had in his mind regarding the redesigned WWE Intercontinental Championship.
