WWE News: Cody Rhodes talks to Chris Jericho about his matches with Kurt Angle
What's the story?
Cody Rhodes was a recent guest on Chris Jericho's podcast Talk Is Jericho where they discussed a range of topics from leaving the WWE to winning the Ring Of Honor World Heavyweight Championship. One specific topic they spoke about was Cody's series of matches against Kurt Angle prior to Angle's return to the WWE.
In case you didn't know...
After ten years in the WWE system, Cody Rhodes asked for his release from the WWE and they granted it in May 2016. A little over a year later, he won his first world championship after defeating Christopher Daniels at Ring Of Honor's 'Best In The World' pay per view.
The heart of the matter
Angle and Rhodes had a trilogy of matches on the independent circuit that started in August of last year for Northeast Wrestling and concluded this past March with the same promotion in a steel cage match. Many called the feud the best pro wrestling feud that wasn't on television.
On Talk Is Jericho, Cody stated that Angle was a pleasure to work with and the trilogy of matches felt like main events that you would see in a pay per view. Cody also stated that he learned a lot from Angle, and realized that after they had their first match, the independent scene of professional wrestling was alive and well.
What's next?
This Friday, Cody will defend his Ring Of Honor World Championship against Minoru Suzuki at Death Before Dishonor. As the General Manager of Monday Night Raw, Kurt Angle's next duties will take him to WWE No Mercy this Sunday on the WWE Network.
Author's take
Those were some great remarks that Cody had for Angle. I haven't watched any of the three matches, but have heard nothing but great things about them.
Hopefully there is a day where Cody does return to the WWE and gets the main event push he deserves, and who knows, maybe he can renew his rivalry with Angle.
