WWE News: Cody's statement creates major backstage heat
WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes requested his release from the company and subsequently got it over the last weekend. Following his release, he released a statement on his Twitter account and revealed why he requested his release. His statement created a huge storm among wrestling community and exposed the inability of WWE Creative to use talents.
Cody stated that he had pleaded with WWE Creative for a gimmick change but was never entertained. He then went on to bash two of the creative staff regarding their unprofessional conduct and revealed how frustrated he was. Ever since the release of the statement wrestling community has been buzzing with the question of identity of the two writers.
Wrestlinginc reports that the lead writer of Raw is Ed Koskey. Ed Koskey has been the lead writer for Raw since 2013 and he could probably be the person whom Cody referred to as "pretending to be Brian Gewirtz." The other writer would be Ryan Ward. Ryan Ward is the lead writer for SmackDown currently and previously he worked as the lead writer for NXT. Below is an excerpt of Cody’s statement regarding the writers.
In the past 6-months I had pleaded with WWE Creative and both of my bosses to let me roll-the-dice and once again be Cody Rhodes. I had pitched to every writer on the staff like a door-to-door salesman on "how" & "why" & "when"…and believe me, there are many of those who sought to help me (Brian James, Nick, Faz, J Russo, Dave K, JBL & Cole for letting me go wild on their YouTube show and a few others I'm sure) but for all that, both "head writers" of RAW & Smackdown (one pretending to be Brian Gewirtz and the other too busy hitting on developmental divas) continued to not return my pitches or e-mails, and in face-to-face encounters tried to big league me by pretending to be on their clearly powered-off laptops…barely willing to listen to an idea I considered beneficial to more than one talent. What's that expression? Don't take no for an answer…what do you do when you don't get an answer at all?
It is to be noted that Cody has received tremendous backstage heat for stating that the head writer of the company is hitting on developmental divas. WWE looks to be concerned about the bad PR that this statement would evoke.
