WWE News: Smackdown Women's Championship match announced, Curt Hawkin's debut update
It was announced that Curt Hawkins would be making his in-ring debut at No Mercy. However, he came out at No Mercy to announce that he would be having his first match this Tuesday on Smackdown Live. It is not known who his possible opponent would be as of yet.
Curt Hawkins’s return was announced shortly after Shelton Benjamin announced that he would not be returning to Smackdown Live for a while due to a required surgery for a torn rotator cuff. Perhaps he was brought in impromptu after Benjamin’s injury, something which Vince McMahon and Triple H themselves were reportedly looking forward to. Curt Hawkins has made untelevised appearances on Smackdown Live, but simply in promos. It looks like San Jose will be ready to face the facts!
In other news, on the kickoff show of No Mercy, Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan broke the news to Alexa Bliss that Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was unable to compete due to an undisclosed injury, and that Alexa Bliss was going to have her contractually obligated Championship match on November 8th on Smackdown Live at Glasgow, Scotland.
It looks like Becky Lynch will be on the sidelines until then, but she did not vacate or drop the title as many fans feared. The Championship match is on November 8th, which is 12 days before Survivor Series. It is possible that they may have an unclear finish in order to continue the program and have a match at Survivor Series.
However, there is a possibility of an inter-brand match between Raw and Smackdown among the females as well, so there is a possibility that the title may not even be defended as Smackdown Live only has six active women on the roster, which will go up to seven once Eva Marie returns from filming the movie with Nicholas Cage.
However, it is all merely speculation at this point, but what is confirmed is the November 8th Championship match. As mentioned above, many fans believed that Becky would have to vacate the title or drop it if she were performing.
However, the fact that they are keeping it on her does indicate that there are clear long-term plans for the division, and given that there are only seven women, they will most likely want to stick to their guns with plans because of a shortage of potential storylines.
