WWE News: Daniel Bryan opens up on the possibility of returning to the ring
What's the story?
According to reports from PWInsider, SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan stepped onto the premises of Hot 97 FM in New York City and discussed several issues with Peter Rosenberg. Among the topics discussed include Bryan's pathway for making a return to the ring.
Rosenburg revealed, "He's (Bryan) been working with a concussion institute in Phoenix (where he resides). He said that concussions aren't a death sentence. He said that if you report a concussion, you need to not be physical until your brain is healed from it completely and then you can come back and not have it haunt you for the rest of your life."
In case you didn't know...
Daniel Bryan's last match in the WWE was on the April 14th edition of SmackDown in 2015. Bryan and his wife's brother-in-law, John Cena, defeated the former tag team of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd.
The heart of the matter
During the interview that took place last Tuesday, Bryan confirmed that the WWE is still 'standing firm' on the thought that they're not comfortable with him performing as a professional wrestler. The WWE forced Bryan to retire from in-ring competition in February of 2016 due to concussions and medical concerns.
Bryan confirmed with Rosenberg that he has presented a case to the WWE doctors to prove that he is fine and able to compete in the ring. The WWE feels like Bryan has had too many concussions but the man himself says there are a lot of misconceptions on the subject.
What's next?
After Bryan told Shane that he didn't want to see Shane-O-Mac turn into Mr McMahon, we saw Shane's demeanor completely change and he left the arena to let Bryan run the show.
When SmackDown Live takes place from the Allstate Arena in Chicago on Tuesday, it will be interesting to see where they will go with the relationship between Bryan and Shane McMahon.
Author's take
From the progression of the relationship between Bryan and Shane McMahon over the past few weeks coupled with what happened on SmackDown Live this week, it appears as if the WWE has looked at the information and agreed to let Bryan compete in the ring at WrestleMania against Shane.
Obviously, there is nothing out there to suggest this is a reality yet. But based on the fact that the WWE was looking into Bryan's health again this year to make a determination and the slow-building explosion that appears to be happening between the Commissioner and General Manager, one can be hopeful of Bryan returning to the ring.
