WWE News: Daniel Cormier gives a thumbs up for WWE making Kevin Owens the champ
The world of pro-wrestling is so entertaining that it can win the hearts of many.
The UFC lightweight champion so happens to be a WWE fan and has admitted it in the past.
Recently, Daniel Cormier opined on the recent shocking twist of tales on WWE Raw where we saw something unexpected take place. We saw an underdog Kevin Owens become the WWE Universal Champion after some assistance by the returning ‘Game’, Triple H.
To everyone’s surprise, we saw DC taking a turn to voice his thoughts on WWE's latest out-of-box move. The story line seems to have won the hearts of many despite KO being a heel. A heel that has millions of fans cheering for him around the world. Especially with him being an adorable father to his little son who is a John Cena fan.
Daniel Cormier feels that KO and he have something in common, perhaps the physique? No, the non-typical bodybuilder-kind-of wrestler's body that Owen's possess and the mega-mass packed body of Daniel Cormier.
The UFC fighter spoke about his belief that underdogs like Owens and Cormier have paved way for many laymen out there inspiring them to pursue their ambitions.
Cormier expressed pointed out the ‘power of positivity’ in the birth of the ‘KO-era’-
“I’ve always loved pro wrestling. I love the stories they tell, how matches build to a crescendo with all the near falls and false finishes. I love the big moments. So to seen a guy like Kevin Owens- who is a guy that is not the prototypical bodybuilder type- win the Universal Championship on Monday Night Raw was huge.
I can kind of relate to Owens because we’re both bigger guys who became champions. Seeing guys like us become world champions gives the everyday man the idea that you can do anything, regardless of your stature. I didn’t follow Owens on the indie scene but I saw that he was like when he got to the WWE and I wanted to know what was up with this Owens dude. I just started liking him, but my son hated him because he was fighting John Cena.”
Cormier also reveals his genius wrestling mind while speaking on the WWE Universal Champion, stating his appreciation of the WWE creatives on not handing back a golden strap to Roman Reign or Seth Rollins. He continued hoping to see Kevin Owens stick with the title for quite some time due to his immense popularity. He also indicated that Owens would put on a show that wouldn't fail to have a 'sold out' sign at the gates.
"Anyway, I love that Kevin Owens won the title. After Finn Balor got hurt, it felt good to see the WWE do something different with Kevin Owens instead of sticking the title right back on Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. (Even though I’m a die-hard Seth Rollins fan!) We have to see how long they stick with Kevin Owens.
They have to find out how he does. he is overly popular with the fans but at the end of the day this is a business and he has to sell merchandise and sell out arenas. When you put Kevin Owens in the main event on a house on a house show, you have to know people will show up. I think this will be a test drive. But, rest assured, this may be his first, but it certainly won’t be his last reign as champion.”
The Game had left quietly after Wrestlemania 32 last April after losing the title to Roman Reigns. But showed up last week to attack Roman Reigns’ and what seemed to be an assistance to Seth Rollins left everyone in the arena baffled when Triple H double cross on his pocket man with a pedigree to hand over the title to Owens, thus making him the WWE Universal Championship.
The shocking turn of events had left the fans baffled and also something to cheer about.
