What’s the story?

In the latest interview with Cerrito Live, former WWE superstar Darren Young discussed a host of topics including revealing his sexuality in public for the first time, his relationship with former WWE Champion CM Punk and Punk having his back when he came out as homosexual back in 2013.

In case you didn’t know…

Darren Young made his WWE debut through the company’s developmental territory of FCW back in 2009 and the following the year, Young would go on to compete in the first season of WWE NXT, where he was initially mentored by CM Punk.

However, in the finale of the first season of NXT, Young along with the other season one rookies of NXT would go on to interfere in a main event match on Raw between CM Punk and John Cena, attacking both wrestlers along with the announce team and thus formed the faction called The Nexus, which was led by Wade Barrett.

Following the Nexus’ dissolution, Young would go on to form a tag team with Titus O’Neil as part of the Prime Time Players and the duo would capture the WWE Tag Team Championship on one occasion only. On October 29, 2017, Young was released from his WWE contract.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with Cerrito Live, Darren Young revealed that it was summer of 2013, when he came out publicly about his sexuality for the first time and following the 2013 Summerslam pay-per-view, he was apparently approached by CM Punk, who praised Young for being so courageous and was proud of him for coming out in public.

Additionally, Darren Young also talked about a possible return to the WWE for CM Punk. Young said, anything could happen in the WWE and he feels like eventually the “OGs” always come back to the WWE and it would also be a great move in terms of business standpoint

What’s next?

As for Darren Young, he hasn’t competed in a wrestling ring ever since his release from the WWE, however, the 34-year-old has expressed in the past that he is indeed open to a potential move to the world of Mixed Martial Arts.

Author’s Take

In my opinion, CM Punk was always one of the most humble superstars to step foot in the WWE and Darren Young’s story proves how supportive of a person Punk actually is in real life.
