From the WWE Rumor Mill: David Otunga pulled from Survivor Series event amidst domestic abuse investigation

He will have to wait this one out...

What's the story?

This has not been a good day for David Otunga. News recently broke that his long-time engagement with Jennifer Hudson has ended but that's not the end of the story. Hudson also filed a protective order against Otunga and a misdemeanor police investigation has been launched surrounding these allegations as well.

Now it looks like David Otunga is going to be pulled from one of the only gigs in WWE he has left as TMZ reports he's off Survivor Series' kickoff show.

In case you didn't know...

David Otunga was an announcer on Raw until April of 2017 when he announced he would be taking six weeks off from the announce table.

Those six weeks seemed to be extended a great deal as Booker T took over Otunga's spot and hasn't left the desk since (except for when Booker T's home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey).

The heart of the matter

Since leaving the Raw announce team, Otunga has pretty much only been seen as a member of WWE's kickoff panel before pay-per-view events. With Survivor Series coming at the WWE Universe soon enough most assumed they would be seeing Otunga take his usual spot as a member of the panel before the big Four PPV.

This would be an accurate assumption before these allegations were made and an investigation was launched. Tracy Rizzo, Otunga's attorney released a statement on the matter saying these claims have no merit and are just a way Jennifer Hudson is using to gain leverage in a child custody case concerning the couple's son.

"As a result of Mr. Otunga's career in WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son."

But while this investigation carries on, TMZ reports WWE is going to play it safe and has decided to pull David Otunga from the Survivor Series kickoff show panel.

What's next?

David Otunga will need to wait and see what happens. Hopefully, the police's investigation will find no cause to make an arrest. But if that did happen, then due to WWE's 0 tolerance policy for domestic abuse it would result in a suspension for David Otunga.

Author's take

If you're a huge David Otunga fan and couldn't wait until Survivor Series' kickoff show to see your hero once more, I'm sorry to inform you that he won't be appearing. But knowing WWE they're liable to find a suitable replacement for the Harvard Law School alum.
