What's the story?

On last night's edition of Table For 3 on the WWE Network featuring Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, Ambrose spoke about how he wasn't ready to be a good guy once the group disbanded in 2014.

In case you didn't know...

Dean Ambrose made his debut in the WWE at the 2012 Survivor Series as part of The Shield, but that wasn't the original plan. Prior to WrestleMania that same year, Ambrose originally was to break into the main roster feuding with Mick Foley.

They even did an angle at WrestleMania Axxess, but the WWE called off the idea due to Foley not being medically cleared to compete.

The heart of the matter

When talking about being a babyface, Ambrose said that he wasn't prepared to have the WWE Universe like him, and he didn't think they would. Oddly enough, Ambrose gets some of the biggest pops of the crowd as his run as a babyface is very successful.

Many people figured Ambrose was going to be the one to turn on the Shield; which is what made Rollins turning such a surprise. When he realised he was going to be a good guy, Ambrose expanded on his trepidation of being a babyface with the following quote:

"I was always kinda trying to make it like I’m kinda the a**hole here. One day, everybody’s gonna know that he’s the a**hole. I was always trying to plant those little seeds in everybody’s head. And then, all of a sudden, it was like, oh; if nobody likes me, then this isn’t gonna work very well. I’m like, I don’t really know how to do that. So I went, I’m just gonna do nothing and not try at all. I’m just gonna wear the same jeans that I’m coming to the building with. I’m not gonna have an entrance, I’m not gonna do anything cool. I’m just gonna come to the ring and start fighting people and get beat up a lot.”

Oddly enough that no-nonsense demeanour lead to comparisons to Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rowdy Roddy Piper and the WWE Universe took to him right away as a singles babyface.

What's next?

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are the current Raw Tag Team Champions, but their place on the Survivor Series card is up in the air. The speculation is that if Roman Reigns is healthy enough to compete, The Shield will be a part of Team Raw with Kurt Angle and possibly Braun Strowman.

Survivor Series takes place from Houston, Texas on the WWE Network November 19th.

Author's take

It is safe to say the babyface run of Dean Ambrose over the past three and a half years has been successful.

I'm slightly biased as he's my favourite wrestler in the WWE, but I am also excited for a heel run with Ambrose to see how he thrives in that environment.
