What's the story?

Last month, WWE confirmed that Dean Ambrose, former WWE Champion, is set to leave the promotion in April 2019, ending his 8-year run with the company.

Ambrose, in Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins' The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, took a surprising shot at the WWE locker room and their love for pro wrestling.

In case you didn't know...

Ambrose, who debuted in WWE alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins with The Shield in 2012, has had a glorious WWE career, becoming a Grand Slam Champion.

Ambrose wrestled all across the US before joining the WWE, becoming a huge star in the indie wrestling scene, and has spoken constantly about his love for wrestling.

The heart of the matter

While speaking to Hawkins and Ryder, Ambrose said that he's living a childhood dream by wrestling in the WWE, but there are quite a few Superstars in the WWE locker room who aren't fans and are in the business only for the money.

"You guys are like me, there are a lot of people here that are just here for the money. They didn't grow up watching it, they don't care for what they do, they have no artistic care for what we do. But you guys are like me, this is all we've ever loved, this is our thing. Toys are a part of it," said the former Intercontinental champion. (H/T WrestlingInc for the transcription)

Ambrose also spoke about how he was exposed to WCW through toys, while his first wrestling toy was one of The Bushwhackers.

What's next?

We aren't quite sure the exact date that Ambrose's contract will expire, but it will be in April.
