A number of reports suggested that Dolph Ziggler had renewed his contract with WWE

What's the story?

During an interview with WSVN-TV, Dolph Ziggler was adamant that he hadn't signed a new contract with WWE even though his existing deal was close to its expiry date,

In case you didn't know...

Earlier in 2018, Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported that Ziggler had signed a new contract worth $1.5 million a year with WWE. However, several other journalists and even Ziggler himself proceeded to denounce this particular story.

The heart of the matter

Here's what Ziggler had to say when asked about his new contract:

"My father called me to congratulate me on my deal that I had re-signed and I said 'What are you talking about?' It's fun to have Internet rumours out there, but even if and when I do re-sign I won't be like 'Hey everybody, here's the details of this contract'.

There's a short amount of time left on this contract, we're negotiating and we'll see what happens." Quotes courtesy of Wrestling Inc.

What's next?

Ziggler will compete in the Greatest Royal Rumble at King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27, 2018.

Author's take

If Ziggler had indeed signed a $1.5 million contract with WWE, he would have reportedly had a bigger downside guarantee than the likes of Roman Reigns, Dean Amrbose, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, AJ Styles and The Miz.

Even though Ziggler will probably extend his contract with WWE in due time, he could do with a run on the independents. A stint with The Bullet Club could rejuvenate his career and make him a valuable commodity in the world of professional wrestling.
