What's the story?

There have been rumours circulating that several independent wrestling talent might be on their way to the WWE with big names like Richochet, tag-team War Machine and Rockstar Spud all rumoured to be heading to the company. However, Drew McIntyre's latest tweet has added a new name to the list of potential new WWE recruits.

In case you didn't know...

Drew McIntyre is currently out of action following an arm injury he sustained during his failed NXT Title defence against Andrade "Cien" Almas. Before this, however, McIntyre was enjoying a career resurgence on his return to the WWE quickly rising to the top of the NXT roster where the former 'Chosen One' has displayed the result of all the work he put in on the independent circuit after his first stint with the company.

The heart of the matter

However, McIntyre's 2017 wasn't just good during his time in the WWE, as mentioned he was honing his craft for several indy wrestling promotions including British based DEFIANT Wrestling (formerly known as WCPW)

As you can see from McIntyre's tweet he wrestled against rising professional wrestling star Will Ospreay in a match that has been voted as DEFIANT Wrestling's match of the year. However, the really interesting part of the tweet is when McIntyre says 'see you soon William.'

What's next?

McIntyre is still currently signed with the WWE and he isn't stupid so he knows that writing something like that is going to stir up rumours about either his departure from the WWE, which doesn't seem likely, or Will Ospreay heading to the WWE. Alternatively, he could just be trolling.

Author's take

Will Ospreay is without a doubt one hell of an impressive athlete and a superb wrestler if you don't subscribe to the Jim Cornette school of wrestling. Personally, I'm a big fan of his so any scrap of a hint that he's WWE bound is enough to get me excited, even if I am going to have to force myself not to get my hopes up.
