WWE News: Drew McIntyre talks about Andrade Cien Almas "missing something" before Zelina Vega arrived
What's the story?
Wrestling Inc. is reporting on a recent interview that former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre had with Planeta Wrestling. During the conversation, they discussed several different topics, but one, in particular, was the growth of Andrade Cien Almas.
In case you didn't know...
Before NXT, Almas made a name for himself in the major wrestling promotion CMLL in Mexico. He was known as La Sombra and donned a mask. He won several singles and tag championships with the promotion during his time there from 2007 to 2015.
The heart of the matter
Almas and McIntyre met for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: WarGames with Almas coming out on top and winning his first title in NXT. During the match, McIntyre tore his bicep muscle and was out of action until his return on WWE Monday Night Raw this week.
McIntyre would talk about his former opponent and how he's come into his own after being paired with Zelina Vega (who was known by her real name Thea Trinidad in Impact Wrestling). Take a look at Drew's quote below:
"I think he is very, very good. I think the pairing with Zelina Vega was perfect. It was just something that was missing. He is very good in the ring; great high-flyer, but he never really got to show it until he wrestled against myself. He can do everything. There was just something that was missing until the pairing with Zelina Vega, and I think he is going to shine in every area of his game."
Drew also said that there was no shame in losing to Almas on that night. He hits very hard and has some great moves up his sleeve, and he was just the better man on that night.
What's next?
Drew McIntyre made his return to the main roster with a surprising ally in Dolph Ziggler for Monday Night Raw. It is safe to expect the duo to explain their new partnership on next week's edition of Raw from Saint Louis, Missouri.
It was also announced that Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega were called up to SmackDown Live. That was announced via a vignette this week, and we should see their in-person debut next week when SmackDown is in Louisville, Kentucky.
Author's take
I definitely agree that Zelina Vega has added so much to the development of Andrade Cien Almas. Before Vega arrived, Almas didn't have any creative direction. He was just a partner who lost a lot and didn't mind that he did.
Since then, he's had several amazing matches with Johnny Gargano and held the NXT Championship for 140 days. With Vega by his side, I think he will continue to succeed on SmackDown Live.
