WWE News: Edge and Christian comment on AJ Styles winning the WWE Championship
What’s the story?
During the latest episode of the E&C podcast, former WWE Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian discussed AJ Styles winning the WWE Title on Smackdown Live from Jinder Mahal.
In case you didn’t know…
On last week’s episode of Smackdown Live in Manchester, UK, AJ Styles went toe-to-toe with “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal.
Styles and Mahal wrestled each other to a decent enough match in front of an amazing UK crowd, and by the end of the match, it was “The Phenomenal One” who left with gold around his waist.
After defeating Mahal, Styles became a two time WWE Champion and now will have the daunting task of defeating “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar later this month at the Survivor Series pay-per-view.
The heart of the matter
During the E&C podcast, former World Champions Edge and Christian revealed their thoughts on Styles becoming the new champion, last week in Manchester.
Edge started the discussion by stating that he believes this was ‘hotshot’ booking by WWE’s creative team and thinks that the title change was rushed.
However, Christian, on the other hand, said that he personally enjoyed the title change and thinks that it was unexpected. The former ECW Champion also praised Jinder Mahal by saying he had a good title run and was a solid heel champion. Christian also added the fact that AJ Styles was the right guy to take the title off Mahal.
Edge would then go on and praise Styles, who he thinks is an incredible athlete and is amazed by seeing a 40-year-old do such amazing moves inside the squared circle.
What’s next?
AJ Styles next’s challenger is by far going to be his toughest challenger in the WWE as “The Phenomenal One” prepares to go to battle against “The Beast” Brock Lesnar on November 19th at the Toyota Center in Houston where the Survivor Series pay-per-view takes place.
AJ Styles has said that he is going to slingshot his way to victory against Lesnar when the two square off later this month.
Author’s take
I agree with Edge and Christian’s comments here and I do think that AJ Styles is indeed one the most athletic wrestlers in the world today, considering he is 40 years old.
On the other hand, I wasn’t much impressed with Mahal’s title reign but I do believe Christian is right in a way by saying that the former WWE Champion was a solid heel in the company, during his time as the champion.
