WWE News: Edge and Christian give their thoughts on the match between Charlotte Flair and Asuka at WrestleMania 34
What’s the story?
During the recent edition of The E&C Podcast, former WWE World Champions Edge and Christian shared their thoughts on this year’s SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 34.
In case you didn’t know…
At WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, 'The Queen' Charlotte Flair, defended her SmackDown Live Women’s Championship against 'The Empress of Tomorrow' Asuka, in what was her WrestleMania debut.
After a hard fought back-and-forth match between the two competitors, Charlotte Flair eventually locked in the 'Figure 8' submission lock and pulled-off the unthinkable.
'The Queen' made Asuka tap out for the very first time in WWE, marking the former NXT Women’s Champion’s first loss in a WWE ring.
The heart of the matter
According to former WWE World Champion Christian, he believes that both Asuka and Charlotte Flair had an absolutely amazing match at WrestleMania 34.
It was certainly one of the best women’s matches Christian has ever witnessed. In addition, Christian also noted that both Asuka and Flair played a huge role in terms of storytelling and the finish to the contest came in as a huge surprise. (H/T: Wrestling Inc)
“I like being surprised, like, I like it when things like that happen. And I think it was the right time for Asuka's [undefeated] streak to end. And, honestly, I think this will help her move forward more than it will hurt her to lose this match."
Furthermore, WWE Hall of Famer Edge also weighed in his thoughts on the match between Charlotte and Asuka, as he stated he watched the entire contest with his wife, WWE Hall of Famer and former Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix.
"It was my favorite match on the show by a large margin, and, again, everything's subjective, but I loved this match. When the finish happened, I was shocked. I had goosebumps. Not only was the match so, so great, but the finish was unexpected but perfect. It was a great time for it because it was unexpected, but it wasn't unexpected like a Bill [Goldberg]/Brock [Lesnar] five-second or twenty-second match at Survivor Series unexpected. This was after a long, crazy, hard-fought back-and-forth."
What’s next?
This past Tuesday on SmackDown Live, Charlotte Flair lost her Women’s Championship to Carmella, and it now looks like we will see the beginning of a rivalry between 'The Queen' and 'The Princess of Staten Island'.
Author’s take
Charlotte Flair and Asuka definitely had one of the best women’s matches in WrestleMania history and in my opinion, it could probably turn out to be the best women’s match of all time in WrestleMania’s history.
