WWE News: Edge reveals the reason why WWE took the WWE title off Jinder Mahal
What's the story?
Edge and Christian opened up about the recent changes in the WWE title scene on the latest edition of the E&C Pod of Awesomeness.
The WWE legends spoke about the big title change and revealed WWE's viewpoint behind the sudden decision.
In case you didn't know...
AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal on last week's pre-taped episode of SmackDown Live in Manchester to become the new WWE Champion. By winning the championship, the Phenomenal One effectively set up a dream match against Brock Lesnar for Survivor Series 2017.
The Beast Incarnate was originally scheduled to face the Modern Day Maharaja with John Cena being rumoured to be the special guest referee. However, WWE changed the plans at the very last minute and added Cena to team SmackDown while stripping Mahal off the title in favour of Styles.
The heart of the matter
Christian was the first to weigh in his thoughts on Styles winning the title for the second time in his career in Manchester. He was happy that the passionate UK fans got to experience an unforgettable title change.
He noted that the change came as a shock to everyone and that the fans in the UK deserved a big moment like this for they have always shown up in big numbers whenever WWE is in town.
"They're always big crowds and they're diehards. They support it and they love it and it's good that they get rewarded with a big moment like that. It was a shocking moment, so it was pretty cool," the former WWE Champion said.
Edge was next to share his opinion an The Rated-R Superstar was pleasantly surprised by WWE's 'hot-shotted' decision to put the title on Styles as he was prepared for Mahal to take the title all the way up until WrestleMania 34 after the solid build-up.
The former WWE Champion then went on to reveal the possible reason why WWE made the decision to have the switch. He said that WWE booked the title change to counter USA Network's debuting show, Damnation, that premiered right after SmackDown ended.
He referenced the debut of Shooter from last year when WWE stacked up the 900th-anniversary episode of SmackDown that included the returns of Undertaker and Edge himself.
"They'll do those things because they're on the USA Network and USA Network asks for a favour, so they'll do them a favour," Edge said.
Christian addressed the complains that have been raised against the dream match between Styles and Lesnar being put together on short notice and asserted faith in the bout. He is confident that the showdown will deliver the goods when all is said and done.
While Edge said that he is not a big fan of giveaways, he is glad that a match of this magnitude is being featured on a big-four PPV. Christian, though, didn't forget to give props for Former Champion Jinder Mahal and his impressive work as a heel Champion.
Edge concluded by praising Mahal, Styles and the Singh Brothers. He showered praise on the Phenomenal One for being Phenomenal at 40 years old. He took his hats off for Mahal and the Singh Brothers in particular, who he thought came outta nowhere and added an important layer to the entire angle and that too at a very high level.
What's next?
Survivor Series is this Sunday and it will be interesting to see how WWE books Mahal into the whole equation. If the rumours from WON are anything to go by, then the Modern Day Maharaja could end up interfering and ruining Styles' moment of glory at the PPV on Sunday.
Author's take
How can you disagree with E&C's Awesomeness? The legendary duo couldn't have analysed the situation any better. It's great to see Mahal get due credit for his motivation and resolve in becoming a major player in WWE after years of struggle.
Will he make a big impact at Survivor Series of after the PPV? Only time will tell. As for Styles, he is the undisputed face of the company after Brock Lesnar and that's a pretty impressive feat for a 40-year-old former TNA talent.
